KNOWLEDGE BUILT OVER TIME

PWA Research

Research is central to PWA's long-term contribution to the industry. Portugal offers a valuable environment in which to study the interaction between spirit, wood, climate, geography and time.

RESEARCH & OBSERVATORY

Portuguese Whisky Maturation Observatory

The Observatory is being developed as a long-term scientific programme to study whisky maturation across different Portuguese environments. It aims to create reliable, longitudinal knowledge that can benefit producers, researchers and the wider understanding of whisky maturation.

METHODS & COLLABORATION

A scientific approach

The programme is intended to combine analytical chemistry, wood science, environmental and mass-transfer modelling, sensory science and longitudinal data analysis through collaboration with qualified researchers and institutions.
